Hello everyone! I am excited to announce that I will be running both the Run Reigate Half Marathon and the Lisbon Marathon later this year, to support and raise money for Stripey Stork.
Stripey Stork are a baby bank based in Reigate, Surrey who help thousands of local families by passing on new items or ones your children have outgrown to those that need a helping hand. Since opening in 2013, their decade-long commitment to provide this support has helped over 44,000 families and currently assist more than 200 families each week. So far in 2024 they have provided support for over 5,100 families.
Having grown up in Reigate, the opportunity to support a local charity close to home is especially meaningful to me. Please find below some more detail about Stripey Stork and the life-changing services that they provide:
Stripey Stork believe that every child deserves the same start in life. Founded in 2013, they work with support services and referral partners across Surrey and the surrounding areas, to provide the practical items babies, children and teenagers need to enable them to develop and meet their potential.
By sharing the items families have outgrown, Stripey Stork support a circular economy in a focused and meaningful way. Local families helping local families. They collect new and pre-loved items for children aged 0-18 years, including clothes, shoes, school uniform, school bags & equipment, moses baskets & cots, baby equipment, nappies & wipes, toiletries, toys and books. They are powered by a dedicated and passionate army of volunteers, who generously give their time to work to support families each week.
Stripey Stork know that going without basic essentials strips families of their dignity and creates barriers. They receive requests from the social workers, midwives, health visitors, home-school-link workers or family centres working with vulnerable families and aim to provide the items the children require within 48 hours of a referral.
“What comes out of that warehouse is far more than practical – it’s the glue that holds communities together. The message that says – you matter, and we’ll help you get back on your feet.” Lena Adbu (Alliance for Better Care Ltd, referral partner).
