Megan who is 9 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October 2013. During this time her dad has raised for JDRF who are committed to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Type1 diabetes can affect any child, Megan has no family history of this condition. Megan has to have at least 5 insulin injections daily to stay alive and tests her blood by pricking her finger up to 10 times a day. Megan is an incredible and brave little girl, she just gets on with it and very rarely moans. Like other kids with this condition Megan has to count carbohydrates in every bit of food she has life, is a constant balancing act to prevent her having dangerously high or low blood sugars. Since Megan was diagnosed the family and herself has been supported by WISH this is a local group run by parent volunteers of kids in St.Helens and Widnes with type 1, they are committed to ensuring that the children in the local area with type 1 are able to meet up and do fun things together including a yearly residential weekend in which the diabetic team, in their own time, from whiston hospital take the kids away for an educational fun weekend.
In September Megan is running the 'Junior Great North Run' which is a 4K run. She will be running this to help raise much needed funds for WISH, Our hearts will be in our mouths as Meg runs this alone but we know she has the courage to do this and we will be bursting with pride when she complete the run. Please help raise money for this fantastic cause every donation no matter how small will really make a difference. Thanks to all Megans Supporters
