Running Half-Marathon for Baby Check Bath

My name is Megan and I am not a runner. As a Pisces, a wannabe mermaid, a lifeguard and a scuba diver, I am a lover of all things water and an avid swimmer since I was little. This love of swimming and my semi-skills of coordination and stubbornness lead me to take on a new challenge in 2017; triathlons. Always an “I will do that someday” goal and now no real excuse not to pursue it, I joined my local triathlon club at the start of last year in Bath, England where I currently live. After completing 2 Sprint Distance Triathlons this past summer I am loving the sport and an Olympic Distance Triathlon is in my sights for 2018. But summer is a while away, and I am impatient. Luckily, my beautiful city hosts one of the most popular races in England-The Bath Half Marathon. Considering I have never run more than 10k in one go pretty much ever in my life, running double that distance seemed pretty daunting. But I have done a lot of things this past year I wasn’t confident I could do, so surely 13.1 miles is NOT going to intimidate this girl. Inspired by my club mates who run and cycle in other events throughout the winter, I am attempting my first half-marathon in March 2018. I am really excited to say I am not just running this race for me. I have teamed up with Baby Check Bath, a local not-for-profit that provides free osteopathic care to babies who need it but their families cannot afford it. Birth can be a traumatic experience and the physical stress for little ones can make their new bodies difficult to feed and soothe. They might have problems latching, cry for long periods of time, or have issues with reflux and colic. Their early days and weeks can be very challenging both for them and for the whole family. As an osteopathic patient myself, I feel how much better the body can function when all the bits and bobs are in the right place, so I want to support this charity in giving babies a great start to life.
