UPDATE - We did it! The sunshine and heat made for challenging conditions but knowing we were running for Thames Valley Kings (and all the kind donations from sponsors) helped us make it through. Thanks everyone! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For some reason I decided to do the Paris Marathon on 9 April 2017! I am taking a number of precautions to ensure I can't chicken out... 1. I'm telling everyone I know and quite a few I don't know too! 2. I have persuaded my lovely sister Estelle to do it with me 3. The most important and worthwhile however is that I am running in support of local charity Thames Valley Kings the only competitive wheelchair basketball club in Berkshire. Small charities make a huge difference to the communities they support but are generally overlooked when it comes to funding. Thames Valley Kings was set up by Jacqueline in 2004, when she was just 19, Jacqueline runs the club with husband Peter alongside a small band of willing volunteers. Both Peter and Jacqueline have full time jobs and from what I've seen they devote all remaining spare time to the club. The club is open to the whole community and to anyone with or without a disability, so family members and friends can play alongside one another. The club provides opportunities to take part in training and the chance to progress to regional and international levels. I've been inspired by this small charity - by what they do and what they achieve with such little support. I hope that by running for them I can help raise their profile and some much needed funds! So a very big thank you to anyone who shares this page and, or chooses to contribute. £5 will buy them an inner tube; £20 a new basketball and £340 (much appreciated) insurance for a wheelchair for a year.
