For this fundraising Challenge our CEO Karen Williams will be swimming the Coniston Lake Chillswim, 5.25 miles end to end of Coniston Lake in the Lake District. Saturday 22nd June.
Our Deputy CEO Niamh Oldham will be walking the Cleveland Way with her Dad Phil - a whopping 109 miles from Monday 3rd July - Friday 7th July.
Karen and Niamh are both in training and they are raising funds for Escape Art's creative health programmes, focusing on our Stratford & Nuneaton community art projects and our National Arts Award programme, enabling young people to to participate in creative leadership activities.
'I feel so lucky to have Escape in my life. The group gives you companionship, a sense of connectiveness, community, confidence and being part of something'.
Stratford & Nuneaton Escape offer weekly community arts projects supporting wellbeing, led by professional Artist and by trained Link Coordinator staff, who are waiting to welcome everyone. It's a real opportunity to 'escape', to refocus and build confidence. It also provides exciting opportunities to get involved in the wider community and we know that creating together leads to lifelong friendships
'It’s great to have a couple of hours creativity and be with such lovely people. I do struggle with low mood, moderate depression and, more recently, anxiety due to a series of biggish life changes. I’m working on building up resilience and these sessions really help'.
Our Arts Award programme provides a peer-led creative framework enabling young people to find their voice, build resilience and change their lives. Through the Arts Award young people harness creativity to demonstrate the power of the arts on improving health, enabling them to explore and to respond to things that are important to them, driving local action for change in their communities.
'Escape provides a safe space for everyone, where we can explore our creative sides and explore who we are and what's important to us'.
This fundraiser will aim to support a 12 week mental health programme, exploring how arts and health are intrinsically linked to improving wellbeing.
