For many young people the transfer from being at a small junior school to a large secondary school can be a scary process. Add to this that many young people have additional situations to face, which may affect their ability to achieve their full potential. The 'Moving on Up' project aims to identify young people who may be potentially vulnerable on their transfer to junior school, and support them both before the transition in terms of preparation and in their first term at their new school.
Why they need our serviceThe project will be delivered by a part time coordinator who would design the course, develop resources and work with Surrey schools to target vulnerable young people who would most benefit from taking part in the scheme. Students will attend a number of group sessions and activities designed to cover the key concerns facing new students which will help them adjust to secondary school and integrate smoothly.
Plan and expected resultsWe expect the Moving On Up transition project to achieve the following outcomes: Early contact and intervention from a professional to provide trusted and impartial support; increased self-esteem and self-confidence; increased knowledge and awareness of the difference between primary and secondary school; reduction in anxiety and stress; increased knowledge of Eikon's services and other services that may be useful for young people.
