Helping rebuild the Cricket Clubs worst hit by the Boxing Day Floods.
The Boxing Day floods have had a devastating effect on the Calder Valley. The impact on our local communities is massive and it will take some time for us all to recover. Along with the businesses and homes that were affected our cricket clubs too have also been hit hard. Three in particular who had only just recovered from the effects of the 2012 floods are once again in turmoil.
It's been heartening to see how our local communities have come together stronger than ever to help each other in this time of need. And the cricket community too has shown its strength of character to come together and get stuck in. With this in mind a host of local clubs have come together to take part in a sponsored 24 hour Netathon to raise funds for the affected clubs, as well as The Calderdale Flood Relief Appeal.
The event took place from Midday Wednesday 17th February to Midday Thursday 18th February at The Cricket Asylum in Sowerby Bridge. It was a great success with 8 people doing the full 24 hours, along with help from many others.
We are looking to the wider Cricket Community to help raise funds for these clubs so that they can not only recover in the short term, but also to help them take preventative measures for the longer term. All of funds raised will be split four ways equally. The recipients will be the local clubs hit by the floods on Boxing Day and also the Calderdale Flood Relief Appeal who are aiming to raise £1m for Calderdale to recover from the floods.
So please dig deep and help us to keep these much loved local clubs heads above the water for the future.
