
The ABIco,along with families, and the patient, will work towards a set of shared goals, which will be identified from the initial assessment. The ABIco will be responsible to communicate and liaise with Therapists,Social Services, PCT's, Medical Practitioners,Solicitors and Benefits Agency.Furthermore the post will establish a rapport with the families and give them support and information as required, therefore taking immense strain off the families. Why they need our serviceThe number of acquired brain injury incidents are on the increase year on year, both nationally and locally. The need for the ABIco service is supported by Dr Keith Andrews, Director of Medical and Research Services at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability as he states, "a Neuro-Disability Coordinator needs to be appointed to help plan an integrated pathway from time of admission, through acute services into rehabilitation and eventually care in the community."
