"An Afternoon With Mark Wood" is an early festive social and educational opportunity for local residents to meet and hear Mark Wood, the Coventry born explorer and adventurer, talk about his North-South Solo Expedition to the Antarctic and Arctic completed in April this year, see film of his incredible lone journey, find out about his work with schools in Coventry and around the world, and learn more about his expeditions to Nepal and the Himalayas.

Why they need our service

Consultation with residents resulted in requests for more accessible social and educational day time events to be available for older people. This project will enable local residents, including older people, to enjoy a social and educational afternoon, learning about some of the most inaccessible places on Earth and how climate change is affecting the North and South Poles, whilst meeting old and making new friends. The event is free, with transport available, making it accessible to all.

Plan and expected results

The event will provide an accessible social afternoon of adventure and fun, together with opportunities for people to meet old friends, make new friendships and develop ideas for future activities.
