This new, state of the art facility will be complement the facilities at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy in Killingworth. It will also be a regional centre for Halliwick swimming, a special technique to teach swimming and independence in water to disabled children and adults. The pool will also provide fitness programmes, water based therapy programmes and lots of fun for disabled people from all over the North East.

Why they need our service

A new regional hydrotherapy centre will provide invaluable benefits for disabled children and adults who have to struggle with the challenges of everyday life. In warm water these restrictions are reduced, giving the opportunity for free movement, exercise and relaxation in a multi-sensory and fun environment.

Plan and expected results

Water based sports and therapies will be far more accessible to many more disabled children and adults across the region. Hydrotherapy aids mobility, reduces muscle spasms, strengthens muscles, improves co-ordination and posture, stimulates circulation, increases physical fitness, and provides opportunities for fun and relaxation.
