i'm running the Hackney Half marathon on 19th May to raise money for a wonderful charity called KEEN London.
KEEN London provides an opportunity for children with additional needs or disabilities to take part in sports and activity sessions in a safe environment with one-to-one support for free.
I've been working with the team since last September and it has been a fun and rewarding experience.
The weekly sessions give these children an opportunity to play games, make friends, build confidence, learn new skills and have fun. Each young person is paired with a trained volunteer coach for individual support. This means they benefit from one-to-one attention and care. It also means their parents can leave their children in a secure and safe environment.
In addition to the sessions, KEEN also organises trips including ice skating, swimming, climbing and canoeing. It also runs run two residential adventure weekends every year, offering children an opportunity to stay away from home and take part in new activities. This provides families a valuable weekend of respite.
Over 100 families across London are members of the KEEN family and provide over 6,000 hours of supported care to children with disabilities every year.
As KEEN does not charge for the sessions, they rely entirely on the generosity of donors and sponsors. I'd be very grateful if you could donate as much or as little as you can.
Thank you :)
