Our numeracy workshops directly support Teaching Assistants (TAs), enabling them to confidently deliver strong numeracy teaching. This is particularly important as increasingly children are spending more time with TAs, many of whom might feel vulnerable when teaching mathematics. Our workshops have been designed by highly experienced mathematics consultant, Jane McNeill, and are run by Ann Parham and Kath Oldham who between them have more than 40 years experience in numeracy.
Why they need our serviceJust as we believe children are offered greater life chances through stronger literacy skills, so too do we believe that mastering basic mathematics is essential to every day life. Oxfordshire's SATS results for numeracy are well below the national average and we are determined to help resolve this.
Plan and expected resultsWe are currently running these workshops throughout Oxfordshire with the hope of potentially expanding them outside of the county. We deliver workshops to a minimum of 12 TAs per session, meaning our work will impact on numerous children. We expect that through this training, the quality of teaching mathematics will improve, and therefore will have a positive impact on the way children feel about and perform in the subject.
