I have taken on a year of challenges for Nottingham Women's Centre, stepping out (way out) of my comfort zone to raise money and awareness of the life changing and often life saving work that the Centre does.
On 4th November, I jumped out of plane for a tandem skydive - a terrifying but awe inspiring experience.
In October, I stepped into the boxing ring after 8 weeks of training pushing my body and mind to the limit. Never having been the fittest and physically awkward to the point that I trip even when there is nothing there, this was a HUGE deal for me! All I wanted to do was survive the fight, and ending up winning was stuff that dreams are made of.
My final challenge in what has been the most unbelievable year of my life will involve climbing somewhere in the Peak district - watch this space!
So why am I doing all of this? This is why:
Nottingham Women's Centre is a valuable resource for women in Nottingham - often the last hope for many who come here and the first port of call when they don't know where to go. A safe welcoming women only space, the Centre offers a range of services from counselling, support, advise to a place to relax and socialise. It is also a dynamic feminist space and the hub of a lot of the feminist action that happens in Nottingham.
NWC has been there for me through bad times and good times. From being a volunteer to a full time staff member, the Centre, the amazing women who run it and those who use it have given me the confidence and the opportunity to do things I could only have dreamt of.
I want to give back to the Centre for all these reasons and to make sure that it can continue to do for others what it has done for me.
So please please support my Year of Adventure for Nottingham Women's Centre by donating or sharing this.
