Our youth programme engages with young people through various activities from sport, to group workshops to encourage social, moral and general wellbeing. We aim to empower young people, raise self-esteem and aspirations as well as providing a fun, safe environment for young people to come to be with friends and make new friends. We are hoping to extend our youth activities and workshops to provide open access provision during the week on Friday evenings and during school holidays.

Why they need our service

We are the only open access Friday night provision for young people in the vicinity. The local area has been hit by public service cuts severely, resulting in little youth provision in the area. 45% of children and young people in Ordsall live in poverty and the neighbourhoods of Ordsall and Langworthy have the second highest child poverty rate in the city of Salford. This service supports young people's aspirational needs, providing a safe space for young people and aims to reduce ASB.

Plan and expected results

We have had over 160 different young people attend the provision over the last 18 months. Last summer we saw numbers rise to over 70 young people attending each evening, but due to financial strains we have had to start charging a £1 entry fee. This has resulted in numbers declining, however the coming summer period we forecast numbers to rise to over 50 attendees. Through partnership work we aim to support over 60 young people into a pathway to employment or into a volunteering capacity.
