Out of the Dark - Into the Light is a collaboration initiated by the Friends of St James' Garden and their partners to illuminate The Oratory, a Temple of Remembrance, in candlelight, to acknowledge all those who gave their lives in the Great War of 1914; but especially the 10 men who's resting place is St James Gardens.
Why they need our serviceSee The Oratory return to its origins as a Temple of Remembrance as its candlelit illumination and ceremony forms part of Light Night 2014 and for one night only, Shiverpool will leave the dark and come forth to take up their posts as Guardians of the Temple to lead you to the light. They join The Friends of St James' in a ceremony to commemorate the 10 casualties of WW1, who subsequently died of their wounds and are buried in unmarked graves St James' Cemetery Garden.
Plan and expected resultsWe are currently working in conjunction with The Commonwealth War Graves Commission to erect a special memorial in St. James Garden to the 10 local men, all casualties of 1914 - 1918 Great War.We are also working with The Liverpool WW1 Research Committee to understand more about these men's lives. To develop this truly beautiful event we continue to work with the Lantern Company, FACT Veterans, LIPA and Handstand Films Liverpool.
