On the 20th of May 12 of us will take on the parachute challenge. We will be raising money for the charity Keen London who run sport sessions for children with disabilities.
The parachute symbolises Keen and all they stand for. It is their rainbow flag of inclusion. It is the absolute cornerstone of every single session. What better than to be 6 years old and spinning around in a giant swirl of colour; to pretend you are a shark underneath the waves, drawing in innocent beach goers; to lie down under canvas after a blast of activities and feel the cooling wind wash over you. Parachute games are as limitless as the creativity of our coaches.
To fly the Parachute through Hackney is to say anything is possible, to spread a message of inclusion and joy, to tell 11,000 runners and thousands more cheering fans every child deserves a chance to play.
With a brilliant 12 volunteers and staff already in TEAM PARACHUTE, we just need to figure out how to deal with a couple of obstacles:
- "TRAFFIC LIGHTS" - All move left - avoid wrapping up central road features.
- "BOLLARD" - Fly the parachute high over everyone's heads, split equally.
- “HEATWAVE” - Take it in turns to run underneath in the shade.
- "RECRUIT" - Everyone ask an unsuspecting runner to join Team Parachute.
- “MAN DOWN” - Bundle them into the Parachute and use it as a stretcher.
- "DRONE CAM" - We dance around wildly waving the Parachute.
- "FINISH LINE" - Same as Drone Cam.
- “KITTEN” - A kitten falls from a tree, we become heroes.
