I'm a Trustee for Martineau Gardens and for the fourth year in a row, I'll be donning my running shoes for the Gardens to take part in the Great Birmingham Run. Martineau Gardens is a vital resource for our community: as well as being a beautiful place to explore, the Gardens are a lifeline to many of the volunteers who help look after the site through the Therapeutic Horticulture Programme.
When I've had a busy day, I like to unwind at my allotment, dig up a potato or two or pick an apple but for many of these volunteers, gardening is much more than a hobby, in fact gardening at Martineau Gardens gives them a reason not to give up, when the going gets tough. The Gardens are a place where vulnerable people feel valued.
It costs £250 a day to run the Gardens and they rely on donations - so please dig deep, and give generously.
