PFM Associates have decided 2017 is the year to enter a team into the New Forest Half Iron Man team challenge.
Three members of the PFM team have set themselves the challenge to complete the Ironman relay in aid of a deserving local charity based in Poole.
The Challenge
The Ironman Team event consists of a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycle ride and a 21km run. One member of the team will complete the swim section, another the cycle and finally the third member will run the half marathon to complete the challenge.
The event will take place on 20 August 2017 at Moyles Court School in Ringwood.
The Charity
PFM Associates have chosen to support the Chestnut Nursery, which is part of Sheltered Work Opportunities Project, based in the Poole area. This excellent charity helps to address the need for meaningful occupation in a pressure free environment, for adults with severe and long lasting mental illness.
It is reported that 130,000 people in Dorset alone experience a mental health problem and many feel isolated and unable to cope with the pressures of normal employment.
The Chestnut nursery gives its volunteers the opportunity to learn basic work skills in a supportive environment. The volunteers work in all aspects of the nursery and the aim is to help them gain confidence, self esteem and dignity.
The nursery is situated adjacent to Poole Park and sells a variety of plants, compost, logs bedding and pots sales of which cover 70% of their annual costs. The remainder currently comes from donations. It is their aim to open a new shop which will help provide a secure future for Chestnut and its volunteers.
Having visited the site I was extremely impressed with the good work undertaken towards helping people with mental illness and was heartened by the important role that Chestnut nursery plays in their lives.
Together we can raise much needed funds to help support this worthwile cause.
