Celebrate Lohri by wearing Pink this year! Celebrate the birth of our girls as well as our boys. Our festivities have often favoured the arrival of boys. Let us make this day equally open to the rejoice at all births. Change tradition by adding a twist. To ALL observing Lohri,we urge you to join us in raising awareness against gender discrimination and gendercide. Make your mark, speak your piece by wearing something Pink. Challenge the 'shame' that often accompanies the arrival of baby girls.

Our Lohri tradition has grown to elevate the birth of baby boys. In an environment where gender preference , sadly, can often be identified as an unresolved problem, there is a pronounced danger in having a festivity that predominantly honours the birth of sons. We do NOT want our Lohri festivities to underhandedly reinforce the message that sons should be more welcome than daughters, and further open the door to the issue of sex selection abortions.

Put on some PINK and show that to YOU Lohri does not and will not ever idolize or represent discrimination. Increase in show of support for equality. Increase in show of support against any form of gender violence. Raising awareness that sex selection abortion is a very current and troubling trend.
