Team Fundraisers

Involve outside groups in a project to plant plug plants such as foxgloves, snowdrops, wild garlic and primula. In addition we will plant wild flower seeds, such as oxeye, poppies, creeping jenny and shepherd's purse. These will be planted in the existing grassy areas beneath the trees. The grass will be left unmown to create a wild area and through this area paths will be strimmed and mowed to encourage people to walk through. Annual scarecrow event with local children to collect seeds.

Why they need our service

To improve a little used area of the park and educate children and adults in the benefits of a wild environment. This will improve the ecological/asthetic value of the area. Children and volunteers will be invited to take part in planned events to plant the area. This will also give an opportunity to unemployed volunteers to undertake work experience under the supervision of the park ranger. It will create a low maintenance, attractive, colourful, designated area within the park.

Plan and expected results

Greater community involvement in the park. Increased sense of ownership of part of the park that has been neglected. The improvement to the area with colours and scents will attract more visitors to explore this informal new environment within the park. It will also attract more butterflies and bees.
