Our award winning project provides play, leisure and recreational activities to up to 22 children/young people with a disability per day throughout the school holidays, as well as providing support to almost 60 families . Our centre is accessible, warm, welcoming and responsive to the needs of the children/young people and their families. We have a garden for sports and games, a light room/chill out area, lounge, kitchen (where we teach everyone to cook), art room and activities room
Why they need our serviceChildren and young people with a disability are often isolated during school holidays. We offer a safe place where they can come and socialise with their friends and peers. We also offer parents a degree of respite allowing them to plan their work, go shopping, spend time with their non disabled children, or simply have some 'me' time. Children and young people attending come from a variety of backgrounds and a locally accessible resource is vital to meet their, and their families, needs.
Plan and expected resultsBy offering 50 days of Creative, Reliable, Active Imaginative and Challenging play activities which reduces social isolation, increases social skills. Enables learning through play, creates friendships and gives valuable respite to families, as well as providing volunteering or mentoring opportunities to local people. We hope we can improve the family and social life of all involved with or attending our centre.
