To improve the pond area with a new easy access platform in green oak providing low maintenance and long life; tiered seating area for schools; new and refurbished paths giving easier access; habitat improvements to the pond and stream; a viewing area with large semi-circular seat in green oak; other new seating; and interpretation boards and mosaics. This 3 year project is now completed but needs ongoing maintenance, promoting to the community, especially schools, and used to support our events
Why they need our serviceThe pond and old platform were in a poor and dangerous state making the place unattractive to both wildlife and people. The Country Park was becoming a place for people to avoid. With an expanding town, it was important to provide a pleasant open space to be valued and cared for, as well as to create a green corridor for wildlife.
Plan and expected resultsBy revitalising this part of Biss Meadows we have once again made it a pleasant place to visit, especially for families. Many more supporters have joined us and we have forged links with schools who are using Biss Meadows as a resource. Wildlife is returning; the swans and kingfisher are back! We raised £80,000 in grants and in-kind works and won many awards. But we now need to maintain and protect it and use it for events and education. New projects are planned for the rest of Biss Meadows.
