Autistic children can look like perfectly normal, healthy kids. But they see, hear and feel the world differently. Their developmental disabilities mean they cannot understand things the way normal people do. Have you come across children or adults who look normal but behave in an abnormal way? They could be Autistic, like my 6 years old Son. My Son is as lovely as any normal child, but he has Autism. This means he needs extra support to learn things to live an independent life when he is grown up. There are many children with Autism, and you may have known one or few of them. If they get the right support, they can grow and become independent and successful in their lives too.
Focus West London is a Saturday club for autistic children that my son Arnav attends. He learns vital play, social and language skills in a fun, nurturing and child-centered environment. Every child is provided with a volunteer therapist trained in a highly effective behavioural intervention. Families have the opportunity to hear expert speakers on a range of topics relevant to their child's needs, as well as socialise and connect with other families facing similar challenges.
Autism-specific services like this are rare and badly needed. That is why on the weekend of 20-21 May, I will be undertaking a Digital Detox in aid of Focus West London. Please sponsor me!
For 24 hours, I will unplug from all digital devices including Smart phones, laptops, computers, TV , Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even email and the entire internet. This will be a challenge for me because as many of you know- I am always hooked to the internet and social media :)
Instead of staring at screens I will be embracing analogue activities and reading "Children The Modern Law"' - a big, fat book 1010 pages long.
My Digital Detox may not be exciting to all of you, But Focus West London is a great cause, a great source of hope for Autistic children. Please Donate.
