The Pre-School is looking to have the area levelled and the terracing removed. This involves considerable engineering including digging out and removing a large amount of soil, adding in retaining walls up by the external fence, drainage and levelling. When complete an all weather surface can be laid. This will enable the whole area to be used throughout the year enabling the children to play outside and engage in outside project work such as gardening/ theatrical performances story time.

The outside space is not fit for purpose and is in urgent need of re-development. Currently the area is terraced with the top terrace being grass/ mud. For much of the year the top terrace can not be used due to the surfacing. The terracing additionally causes issues with staff numbers as it hinders the ability of staff to see the children and hence restrictions have to be placed on the number of children outside at any one time.

This re-development will ensure that the children can play outside for much longer periods and engage in activities that currently they are unable to do. If the redevelopment does not take place the school can not progress any further and there is a danger that those who are able to drive their children to a different school will leave and consequently the facility could be in danger of being lost to the community as a whole.
