The Wilberforce Trust provides support and help for adults with a Visual Impairment and/or Learning Difficulty, through many services such as Low Vision, Sensory Sessions and the Connect Cafe. On Saturday 25 June 2016, I will be completing an accessible walk with my children to help raise funds for the many projects the Trust is involved in. The Low Vision Service helps with the difficulties faced by a person when they are told their sight is deteriorating and medically it can not be treated, the service aims to provide support and tips around making the best use of the vision remaining and help clients to maintain as much independence as possible and continue their favourite activities. Isolation and loss of confidence can be caused by sight loss and the Connect Café aims to share information, form connections with other people experiencing sight loss and provide a social activity. Sensory sessions enable people to explore all senses and communicate mainly using touch, sound, colour and light, through activitiy, exercise, individual and group games. It has been observed that with the introduction of different and varying activities some of the participants at the Active Sensory have shown skills and abilities that they either did not have or had not been explored before. The pop up sensory room at the Trust has been so successful that the service has been expanded to include children. If you are able to spare a few pennies to help the services above continue and expand, to reach more people in need to improve their quality of life, it would be much appreciated. Thank You
