This weir is in a very poor condition and needs to be extensively repaired. We will use volunteers from the Waterways Recovery Group who have the necessary skills working with the Canal Company. NW&DCT volunteers have assisted in the clearance of the trees and brash readying the weir for repair.
Why they need our serviceThe canal is river fed therefore the water which is fed into each pound is continuous flowing. This requires a weir or spillway to allow the excess water to flow out of the highest pound and back into the canal below the associated lock and so on down the canal. The water controls i.e. the weirs and backsokes which carry the excess water are essential to regulate the water levels in the canal pounds. The weir is vital to prevent flooding.
Plan and expected resultsA fully working weir/spillway ready to regulate the water height when water is restored to this section.
