The Friends of Heaton Moor Park, faced with the prospect of the closure of the bowling green as a result of proposed Council cutbacks, hope to maintain the green on an ongoing basis. We are looking for direct financial support to help us achieve this. During the growing season, from March to September the green needs to be mown twice a week, in addition the green needs to be scarified and given special treatments twice a year.
Why they need our serviceHeaton Moor Park is in a conservation area. It has two active local bowling clubs who currently use the green during the bowling season. Bowls have been played in the park for well over 100 years and bowling plays an important part in the heritage and history of the park. The green and the surrounding herbaceous borders add significantly to the overall beauty of the park.
Plan and expected resultsThe cost of keeping the green to the current standard is estimated around £2,500 per year. The Friends of Heaton Moor Park hope that through donations made, they will be able to successfully retain and maintain the bowling green to competition standard for the bowling community in Heaton Moor Park.
