I have volunteered again to support the MKRUFC Ring of Fire 2020 bike ride. This years ride will be tougher than previous years because of the terrain and of course the UK weather. The ride is coast to coast from Newcastle to Whitehaven and back, covering roughly 380 hard miles in 4 days. My job again this year will be to assist the support crew in keeping the riders fed and watered. This sounds like an easy ride, sat in the van following a group of lycra clad loonies. In truth the preparation for the event takes months of hard work just to get to the start line and then the fun begins. 5am starts, preparing and cooking 4 meals a day for 50 riders and 10 support crew then finishing 12-14 hours later and repeating for the next 3 days. Having completed 3 tours I can assure you this is not a walk in the park.
The entire cost of the event is covered by external sponsors so every pound donated goes directly into the fund. As with all community/charity based organisations we have to reply on the generosity of others. All funds raised will go back into the club to improve and develop community rugby in Milton Keynes. Our aim is to make the club more self-sufficient and to improve our facility for the long term future of the club. We have a substantial mini and junior section that we want to continually develop. This will also ensure our senior teams thrive with the help of our home grown talent in years to come.
