After facing mental health issues of my own recently, I wanted to get myself in a better place. Men’s Minds Matter raises awareness of male suicide and mental health, which currently is still a largely ignored issue. Their work, alongside other individuals and organisations, brought male suicide (and suicide in general) into focus. Their work helps to get the male gender recognised as an at risk group in the National Suicide Prevention Policy. On April 23rd 2023 I'll be running the London Marathon. The money raised from this page will help in a range of ways, from day to day administration which needs to be done to stay on top of things to assisting in the development of a self help web app to support suicide interventions which will enable people to access support more easily.
Men account for three quarters of all suicides and male suicides have always been disproportionately high. Suicide is the leading cause of death globally for men across all age groups. Undeniably, it’s something that needs attention with a focus on the male experience.
Men currently make up 76% of all suicides in the UK.
On average more than 13 men a day take their own lives.
When it comes to thinking about the psychological needs of men, we seem to have our heads in the clouds, whistling merrily along as if everything is fine. Things aren’t fine. There are many issues that men and boys face which require attention. I think we can agree, more needs to be done.
I believe this is going to one of the hardest things I've ever done, so I want to go above and beyond to raise money for a great cause.
I'd greatly appreciate anything you can donate, no matter how small!
Thank you.
