Yeah, you read that right. Not long ago I couldn't run 1k never mind 10k. This probably isn't a surprise to many of you. But I've bought some trainers, shedded a few pounds, done a bit of training, and I'm feeling like I might actually be able to rise to the challenge (dodgy hamstrings permitting) I'm raising money for my community owned, run and financed football club, FC United of Manchester. FC United believe in being a role model for how football clubs should be run, by the fans for the fans. Our core principles are: - The Board will be democratically elected by its members. - Decisions taken by the membership will be decided on a one member, one vote basis. - The club will develop strong links with the local community and strive to be accessible to all, discriminating against none. - The club will endeavour to make admission prices as affordable as possible, to as wide a constituency as possible. - The club will encourage young, local participation - playing and supporting - whenever possible. - The Board will strive wherever possible to avoid outright commercialism. - The club will remain a non-profit organisation. More here: http://www.fc-utd.com We are about to open our own self funded stadium and community facility in May. This has been a massive undertaking for a club which is only 10 years old and has no rich benefactors to help pay for it. The facility will be used 7 days a week to deliver our extensive community programme as well as being a venue for local sports clubs and residents. Your money will go to help pay for it. Now, this cause might be against the religion of a few of you, but I'd ask you to put the colour of the shirts to one side, hold your nose and think that in some small way you are making a positive difference to the way football is run in this country. Failing that, think of me sweating my way round Manchester and take pity on me. Thanks Roger UPDATE: Official PB of 1hr 8secs!!!!!!!!!!!
