I have had the pleasure of being a playing and social member of Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club for over 25 years. It is a small, friendly, family club that extends a warm welcome to everyone and prides itself on having one of the best (I would say the best) playing surface and ground in the Halifax Cricket League. It is the epitome of a grass roots cricket club from which the English national team ultimately draws its talent. The Club nestles by the River Calder and the Boxing Day 2015 floods have had a devastating impact. The ground is covered by layers of thick mud, silt and debris. The Club House has seen the changing rooms, the kitchen, the toilets, the bar, the furnishings, everything destroyed. The building is now a shell with no plaster on the walls and no floorboards. Because we are next to the River Calder we do not benefit from any insurance policies. So the Club Members are having to raise funds to repair the ground and effectively rebuild our Club House to enable our senior and junior sides to be able to start the season in April. It is a mammoth and expensive task. We appear to be blighted by events of biblical proportions - in the 1980's the Club House was burned to the ground by a Fire. Now in 2015 we have been visited by devastating Floods. We are hoping Pestilence and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse will pass us by in the future!! But we are committed to rising Phoenix like from our flood. Every donation you can afford will be invaluable. Thank you. Paul
