Rosemary (Alexander’s mum) and I are going to run 211km between us (that’s the equivalent of 5 marathons) from now up to Christmas.
We are doing this to support Yorda, who provide tailored after-school & holiday clubs for children with severe learning disabilities and mobility challenges.
Alexander, 14, has Down Syndrome and Yorda has supported him and his family for almost 10 years. Alexander adores everyone who works there and the staff have become an extended family. He attends twice a week during term time after school and often a full day once a week in the holidays.
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly reduced the amount of funding Yorda has been able to raise this year, and they are at risk of closure. There is no alternative provision in the local area and many families like Alexander’s would be hit very hard if they had to close.
So, at the end of Down Syndrome Awareness month, Rosemary & I have decided to get our running shoes on & team up to help. We’d love you to support us to raise much-needed funds.
We’ll post weekly updates on our running progress.
Thank you!
