I am trekking 100km across the Sahara for Nugent to make a real difference to communities across Merseyside.
November 2023, I will be taking part in what will be the most mentally and physically challenge that I will have ever experienced. As we embark on a 5 day journey, totaling 100km trekking across the Sahara Desert in support Nugent.
Nugent are a Merseyside based charity which aims to care for, educate, protect and inspire many children, young people and adults who are vulnerable or at-risk. Founded in 1881 by Father James Nugent, which offers a diverse range of support and is the social welfare arm of the Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool.
As the cost-of-living crisis worsens, and costs continue to rise, many children and families across Merseyside are at greater risk of both immediate hardship and reduced well-being. As the poverty rate increases across the UK, many families do not know when their next meal will be, are struggling to pay their electricity bills, are unable to purchase basic essentials and are forced to choose between heating and eating. Some parts of Liverpool are amongst the most deprived areas in England. 3 in every 10 children under 16 years old will live in poverty. Nugent are working hard to create Brighter Futures for all, by strengthening communities by tackling all forms of poverty by launching a hygiene hub, developing their food pantry and helping families who are facing extreme hardship.
