On Saturday 6th February I am doing this walk to raise money for the flood relief fund. I've often thought about this walk as a fundraiser, but haven't found the right cause - until now. If ever there was a time local people needed help, this is it. On Boxing Day 2015, the Calder Valley was devastated by the worst floods for 70 years. Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd suffered horrendous damage to homes and businesses, some properties in Mytholmroyd literally falling into the river. Calderdale is full of small independent businesses , houses and cottages - both private and rental - and here's the rub, 40% of all businesses, and even more home owners and tenants cannot get flood insurance and they have lost everything. Calder Valley people are a resilient lot, but this time they need all the help they can get. With the Government promising matched funding, every £1 you give is worth £2 (with the added bonus of taking money from central government!). The CFFC intends to raise a total of £2 million. To date, in less than four weeks, with the help of that matched funding, an impressive total of more than £1.4 million has been raised. If you can help boost this total thank you . ------------------------------------------------------------- We did it ! My friends Geoff , Andrew and myself made it to the Sair inn drenched , it never stopped raining all day which seems appropriate considering the cause ! Thanks to everyone who helped and contributed Mike Joyce
