At the beginning of May 2015 we lost Nick, he was Veteran having served time in the Army. Unfortunately Nick was diagnosed with Cancer and after a hard fought battle he passed away at the age of 26.
I Have known Nick since High School, Joined the Cadets at the same time, Nick left to join the Army, however when home he did occasionally enjoy a good old fashioned booze up with many of his friends.
Nick and his family have an affiliation with the organisation Salute, to which I have spoken to and agreed to raise some funds for them.
Salute is a not for profit organisation that has applied for charitable status, which has been established by ex military service personnel (VETERANS) and their families, to assist serving military and ex military service personnel and their families, residing in the North West of England.
SALUTE has already helped a lot serving and ex serving military personnel (VETERANS) and their families in the local area, 46%of them needed advice on housing, benefits or job searches, 16% needed counselling and 19% just wanted a social get together, as they miss the comradeship from the forces. We have clients as young as 21 years old that has served in Afghanistan and are struggling to adjust to civilian life. Shockingly 75% of our ex military personal are unemployed, 13% of our ex military personal have a bad association with drinking, 4% have a drug problem and 8% have a criminal record.
So.. I'm doing Tough Mudder in August at Skipton. For those of you aren't familiar with it.. https://toughmudder.com/
This is my first Tough Mudder so not quite sure what to expect.. you can go onto youtube and you can see the vast amounts of obstacles.. including Electric Shocking and Ice Cold water obstacles!
Personally if Nick was here he would tell me I'm nuts.. but I'm going to give it ago anyway... 11 miles.. numerous obstacles.. caked in mud! :)
