I am taking part in the London 2 Brighton Challenge on Saturday 28 May to Sunday 29 May 2022 to raise money for St Andrew's Club Football Programme.
I would love to be able to support this programme and see first hand the difference physical activity makes to Young People growing up. I am no definitely no footballer, instead I will be walking 100km to support the programme!
Football is on of the original activities offered by St Andrew's Club, with the first match taking place 134 years ago. Currently the Club fields 5 teams; an U11's, U12's, U15's, an all-girls team and an adult team. Each team is coached an managed by FA trained Youth Workers.
Teams train once a week and then commit one day at the weekend to play in league matches. The most recent addition to the Football Programme is the 'Mini ballers', a session for members aged 5-9 yrs makes sure that all ages have the opportunity to take part.
Through the programme, the members keep fit; off the pitch, managers encourage members to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
Football gives Young People an outlet for their energies and as part of a team learn, to have aspirations, determination, commitment and pride.
