Many members of our communities with learning disabilities have shared stories about their experiences of struggling with things like accessing public facilities, entering a building they choose or simply ordering food from a menu. I know, these things seem very ordinary, although many of our members are faced with these difficulties on a daily basis, especially in our lovely Dorset towns that are full of beautiful listed buildings. Fantastic to look at but incredibly difficult to enjoy if you have mobility difficulties. Our Dorchester speaking up group has decided to take action! Join us for our sponsored Fancy Dress Seaside Stomp on Saturday 2nd September. Meet outside of the Oasis Cafe on Weymouth promenade ready for a 10am start! Run, walk or roll down Weymouth seafront to our finish point at the Ferry Terminal Cafe where Dorset Abilities staff and members will greet us with refreshments. We are raising money to help our Dorchester and Weymouth Speaking Up group to make a 2 access guides. The guide will help members of our communities including people with learning and physical disabilities, hearing or sight impairment, elderly and those with small children and pushchairs. The guide will empower people in our community to become more independent and make better informed choices when getting out and about around Dorchester and Weymouth. Join us for a fun filled few hours, and help us to reach our goal of raising £500.00! There is no entry fee, but we ask that you aim to raise at least £10.00 in sponsorship. Contact Lisa on 07902 528895 or email lisa@peoplefirstdorset.org.uk to sign up or find out more.
