As a child, I lived through the winter of 1963 in a converted railway carriage with my four siblings and my mother, a single parent. This was followed by a number of other temporary lets, a brief spell in council care and eventually we were allocated a council house (as they were known then), however I had a happy childhood and my brothers and I have all ‘done well’. I only mention this to say that I am very sympathetic to the work that HomeStart does with families in similar situation to that my Mother found herself in, and I would be delighted to run the Reading Half-Marathon on 3rd April (and more importantly, fund raise) in support for HomeStart Reading (although I cannot promise you a particularly fast time; less a run, more a brisk shuffle).
