Hi friends, as some of you know, I will be starting a six-week course at the end of January with Edventure Frome. The aim of the course is to establish a community project that reduces waste related to clothing. More specifically, we will be setting up a jeans co-op which allows members of the public to repair their damaged jeans, rather than add them to landfill. In this attempt to combat fast fashion, users will also be able to upcycle, visibly mend, swap and share clothes.
Discarded clothing makes up roughly 5% of landfill waste and I’m really excited to be part of a project that will have some impact - no matter how small. Addressing the climate crisis is essential. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love talking about reducing waste (shampoo bars; mooncups; refill shops such as Denude in Frome; reusable nappies/wet wipes for Freddie and buying everything such as toys, clothing and furniture second-hand, etc…)
My first task for this course is to raise funds for our jeans co-op - and this is where you come in. I’ve been racking my brain, trying to figure out what silly challenge I could do to raise money for our project and since time is of the essence, I’ve decided to do a ‘sleep-out’ which relates to another cause that is important to me - homelessness. Winter is a particularly tough time for rough sleepers and the volatile weather that comes with climate change is only going to make things worse.
So, for every £50 raised, I will sleep outdoors in the bitter January cold and document my experience. My aim is to raise £200 by January 19th - but if I raise more, I’ll be spending even more time outdoors! If you’re feeling generous, please donate even a small amount - and if you’re feeling evil, please donate even more.
