This is an outdoor learning project for children and young people in and around Shettleston. It was funded by Sport Relief during summer and autumn 2012.
Why they need our serviceKathleen and her three children all under ten live in a tenement flat. They wrote to say that "this is the best outdoor activity that we as a family have ever been involved in" and that "my children and I have all enjoyed so much so that they have asked for an allotment of their own for Christmas!!".
Plan and expected resultsChildren learn how to grow and care for fruit and vegetables and that not everything comes from a supermarket. They become more adventurous in what they eat - trying new things because they have grown them themselves and taking pride in their achievements. They meet their neighbours and feel more involved in the local community.
