Team Fundraisers
Hello,
I’m Lyall and over the next few months with the help of my mums I’ll be taking on 10 challenges to raise money for Sunshine and Smiles-Leeds Down Syndrome Network. It’s 10yrs in Nov since Sunshine and Smiles became a charity and in that time they have achieved great things but there’s so much more to do.
My mums, Steph and Sharron were part of the small group who started Sunshine and Smiles and Max thought of the name. We’ve all done lots of fundraising over the years by running, baking, parties, helping at events and Dans DJ collective “DMan and friends” regularly donate money from the gigs they do.
Through Sunshine and Smiles I get to do cricket, football, music, movement, swimming, youth group, big parties and so much more. My favourite place to eat cake is 21 Co cafe. There are often activities especially for people like me who are also autistic.
There’s lots of things I love doing and so I’m going to do lots of them over the next few months and hopefully raise lots of money!
So far I’m doing the following things
1. Yorkshire Ability Triathlon
2. Leeds Junior Fun Run
3. A concert with Sunshine and Smiles/Made with Music at the Leeds conservatoire
4. Walking 10miles (in a few stages)
5. Scoring 10 baskets throwing the ball backwards over my head
6. Buying 10 items from a list in Lidl, paying for them and packing the bag
7. Something bouncy related at Gravity
8. Something bowling related
9. To be decided

As many of you know I have had a very complex health history. My heart needing fixing, I was on a ventilator until I was nearly 3 and had a trachy until nearly 5. I didn’t eat until I was 3 and still don’t drink. I didn’t walk until I was 4. My Down syndrome and autism make some things harder but I’m very determined and will love doing all these challenges. My family are so proud of me!
