They did it!
On the 11th July Lyall will be running in the Leeds Mini Fun run and on the 12th July Sharron will be doing the Leeds 10km. They will be raising money for Sunshine and Smiles-Leeds Down Syndrome Support Network.
*Aunty Julie is now running too!!! And best friend Claire McCall!
Lyall is no stranger to the mini fun run having competed in it for the last 2 years, the first time using his walker and last year managing most of it without needing a carry. Whilst he is doing so well his underlying Chronic Lung Disease means he still tires easily and this will be a real challenge for him. Running with so many friends from Sunshine and Smiles will really spur him on and he's really excited about it.
Sharron is new to running and freely admits she is not a natural runner. However she has trained hard and hopes the thought of raising lots of money for Sunshine and Smiles and the support of friends and family will drive her on to finish.....the time is irrelevant!
We have been involved in Sunshine and Smiles since its small beginnings in 2011. We are proud to be a part of such a brilliant organisation that is doing so much to support families with children with Down Syndrome. There are groups for 0-3s, 3-5s, 4-9s, 9+ and a regular family group for all ages. We have 10 speech and language groups a month. We do individual support work and assist people claiming DLA and other benefits. We have excellent links with the hospitals and have delivered training to health professionals involved in both delivering a diagnosis of Down Syndrome or caring for families in the early days. We have delivered awareness training to other organisations such as schools, nurseries, the donkey sanctuary. We run regular trips, parties, awareness raising events and much much much more.
The more we do, the more demand there is on our services. We need to raise lots of money just to sustain what we are doing and we have big big plans for the future
