The Speakeasy is 25 years old!
Since 1993 (when I was just 7), The Speakeasy has been providing free, expert and independent legal advice to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in Cardiff and across Wales.
For some, hardship begins with the loss of a job or a loved one. For others, domestic abuse or on the onset of ill health. For others still, discrimination or the need to flee a war zone.
Whatever the cause, The Speakeasy staff work with great and compassionate dedication to challenge unfair decisions that would otherwise leave people homeless or destitute. They help free people from vicious cycles of debt, negotiating with their creditors and applying for grants. They hold rouge landlords to account to ensure people have safe, warm and secure places to live. They help people to access energy efficiency measures and take control of their energy bills. And they help people maximise their income and access essential household items and food when they are in crisis.
More than 2,000 people come through their doors every year and so, from 4 - 7 May, I will be joining them to cycle 250 miles around Wales to help raise money and support for this vital organisation.
If you’re able, they’d greatly appreciate your sponsorship.
Many thanks,
Ben
