For the last 6 years I've had the pleasure of working for the most amazing charity. We don't rescue cats or donkeys, but we do bring compassion and hope to some of the most vulnerable people in Wales.
Having spent time with those the media would have us believe are "scroungers", I could tell you a very different story. For some it's the loss of a job or a loved one, for some it's domestic abuse, for others it's a disability or fleeing an oppressive regime.
Whatever the cause, we talk to people every day who are doing the very best they can just to make ends meet; to feed their kids and keep a roof over their heads, to hold their families together. These people are not lazy. These people need our help. This is where the Speakeasy steps in.
Our amazing team provides independent legal advice at no charge, ever.
We help people to challenge unfair decisions that would otherwise leave them homeless or destitute. We hold landlords to account to make sure people have safe and secure places to live. We take carrier bags full of bills that people are too scared to open and help them renegotiate and write off their debts. We help people get control of their energy bills and keep their homes warm. We replace broken washing machines, cookers and boilers. We make sure families in crisis can access emergency food parcels. Every year more than 2,000 people come through our doors.
From May 4th-7th I’ll be cycling 250 miles to raise £500 to support this fantastic cause so, if you’re able, please dig deep and sponsor me!
Thank you.
