I had a very rocky start to this year when I woke up on 1 January and started feeling ill. By the end of the day I realised I had vertigo (forgetting it was a symptom) as I had had this in the past I took my usual meds to help sort it out. That was the Wednesday by the Friday it was getting worse and worse so on the Monday off to the doctor's I went but this time I could barely walk, was permanently dizzy, had the shakes but it was affecting different parts of my body. It could be my hands, my arms, my legs or just one of them.
The GP I saw told me that I had vestibular neuritis, I had never heard of this and tbh I still wish I hadn't as it's a nasty affliction. After 5 weeks of being pretty much housebound and trying to find out as much as I could about this I discovered that exercise or at least moving around would help.
So I started walking, initally I couldn't go out alone and it would take me an hour to walk 1 mile with at least 2 rest stops. Knowing that I need a goal to make myself actually commit to something I thought of a sponsored walk, but who for?

Without really needing to think hard about it I thought of an organisation that has supported myself and my family for 10 years now. As you may have gathered from the title it's Special Voices.

They really are an amazing support group for parents/carers in Slough, Berkshire for families that have special needs children. Our daughter Georgia is autistic albeit one who requires very little support and will be 15 this year. I can honestly say I do not know what we would have done without them all along our journey. They receive no funding apart from what they raise themselves as they are not classed as a charity.
I am hoping that others will join me and Georgia on our sponsored walk that the Rotary Club in Slough organise on 3 May 2020
