Team Fundraisers
The team at Bristol24/7 are ditching their bikes for running shoes, in aid of Square Food Foundation. We will be running the Bristol 10k for the charity in September.
Two of the ten most deprived food deserts in the UK are in Bristol South, where Square Food Foundation operate. Families in these areas often have the odds stacked against them. They might not have access to a proper supermarket with affordable options, or transport to be able to buy more than a few items. Often people in these areas are contending with poverty, mental health challenges, confidence issues and lack of time. This was a problem before the cost of living crisis heightened and is now becoming increasingly dire.
Square Food Foundation run a host of programmes, courses and workshops across Bristol to address food insecurity and bring people together through food and cooking.
As with lots of small local charities, they often get overlooked when it comes to fundraising ventures. They are constantly battling to raise funds to continue their work.
The Bristol24/7 team have set out to raise £13,000, and are hoping to secure match funding from local businesses to increase this to £26,000.
If we are successful, this will cover the cost of putting sixteen young people through the How to be a Chef programme. The programme helps those who aren’t otherwise in work or education to gain the skills, confidence and experience to go into the food industry or further education, transforming lives and empowering young people.
The cost of running the How to be a Chef course is £26,000 a year, which is our target. We intend this funding to be unrestricted, so that Square Food Foundation can spend it wherever it is most needed. This is because we believe that no one is better placed to decide where best to spend that money than the charity and the community they work with.
