This will be my 3rd charity event this year... I must be going soft in my old age. This time I have decided to get organised and create an online giving account.
This event is for one of my favourite charities run by some good friends.
Autism Aware UK is run by my friends Kim and John Southall, they have twin boys, one of which is Autistic.
The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) locally and nationally, while raising vital funds.
While raising awareness the funds they raise will then be used to help the education of ASD to the general public and with the research of autism.
Also funds will be used to provide educational tools to schools, groups, organisations that educate & support people with ASD.
They also provide support to families who are connected with ASD and also those awaiting diagnosis as the time before diagnosis is found to be the most difficult as there is little or no support available.
You can find out more here http://www.autismaware.co.uk/
The event is the 2nd annual charity walk to raise money and awareness for Autism Aware UK.
The walk will start and finish at the Ramblers Retreat and will be a 11 mile circular route through to Froghall, taking in parts of the old Churnet Valley Railway, the Staffordshire Way, Hawksmoor Nature Reserve, Churnet Valley, Froghall and then heading back down Lockwood Road and through Threap Wood and Diminsdale.
This route has it fair share of challenges with steep climbs and overgrown footpaths but the views make up for it and the money raised will be well worth it.
