Once upon a time, a rather unfit, late 40-something GP from deepest, darkest Norfolk decided it was now or never if she was going to meet her lifelong desire of showing-up Jessica Ennis, Paula Radcliffe and Usain Bolt in one single, knock-em all down, megathlon; the Norfolk Superhero Challenge - a two-person team event featuring: a 1 mile SEA SWIM followed by a 3 mile KAYAK followed by a 45 mile CYCLE RIDE followed by a 7 mile BEACH AND WOODLANDS RUN followed by a 1 mile MARSH RUN followed (probably) by an ambulance.
With her unsuspecting husband under her arm, team 'Black Magic' was born, and Di stepped out onto the mean streets of the Burnhams with only her bike, kayak, speedos and trainers, and transformed herself beyond recognition.
All that, I hear you ask, just to say farewell to a tiny bit of unsightly, but also unseen, blubber? No. Actually we also wanted to give a helping hand to a great local charity - FIRST FOCUS in Fakenham. Working at grass roots level they improve the health and wellbeing of adults in Fakenham and the surrounding area. They provide a drop-in service where you can have a cup of tea, get help with CVs, job searches and forms, do a jigsaw, take up a new hobby and just generally help people who may be rurally and/or socially isolated or just need a bit of support. It's very simple but very effective; Di describes it as 'a little mine of goodness quietly getting on with helping make people's lives better!
'So!?' So, if you are able to dig deep in your pockets (and then in the pockets of your spouse and/or children) to sponsor us for this bonkers challenge, it will give us that extra push up those huge hills of Norfolk when tempers are fraying at the edges and the last of our jelly babies have gone!
In short we need your support, your love and most of all.....! Seriously, huge thanks from both of us for anything you are able to give.
