Menai and Sarah made a prosecco-fuelled pact at a party last December that we'd run 'half of a full marathon' this year. We set our sights on the "Swansea half": a flat, fast, scenic 13.1 mile route along Swansea Bay that boasts some of the most breathtaking views of any half marathon. Chuffed with our choice, we trained through gruelling winter months, muddy and dishevelled by wind and driving rain; propelled along by thoughts of our coastal spectacular in June. What could possibly stop us? Ah well, best laid plans and all that.
Our pathogen-prompted 'plan b' is to run local half marathons, socially distanced by 184 miles: Menai in Cardiff, Sarah in Cambridge. Weather-permitting, we'll run on June 14th, the original date of the Swansea half.
Please consider donating to Blue Smile, a wonderful charity that provides therapy and support in Cambridgeshire schools to help vulnerable children to be happier and live life to the full. Blue Smile has had to adapt really quickly, changing its working model to provide much needed remote support to children and their families during lock down, all when funding is at its lowest so we'd love to be able to give them a wee boost. Don't forget to Gift-Aid, if you can. Thanks so much / Diolch yn fawr!
