Thank frogs that's over! The strait of water dividing Europe and Asia has been truly conquered on behalf of the Strand. Proud to say that not only was I not one of the 100 swimmers hauled out by the pilot boats, I finished a respectable 74th out of 550 and 3rd in my age group. The whole trip was an inspiring experience.
6 months of 6am morning swims
3,300 lengths of the local pool (hair like straw and one verruca to show for it!)
9 baltic practice swims in the Irish Channel
90 litres of dirty sea water swallowed
7 missed nights on the lash (yes 7!)
1 small change of plan due to an untimely and frankly quite selfish military coup
3,649 km flight from Dublin to Istanbul
316 km drive (6 hours) from Istanbul to Canakkale
Finally, a 4000m open water swim from Asia to Europe across the Bosphorus
(Sharks actually the least of my worries)
